Georgian Polyphonic Singing Day Workshop

Please join us for a full-day workshop exploring traditional Georgian polyphonic singing with Holly Taylor-Zuntz at The Nest in Oxford. This day offers an immersive experience in the rich harmonic songs of Georgia — one of the world’s oldest living vocal traditions recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The workshop includes learning three-part folk songs by ear and discovering how to use your whole body and breath to support your voice. You’ll be guided through both technique and cultural context, and invited to connect with others through shared sound and communal singing. Participants are encouraged to bring food to share at lunchtime.

Georgia’s polyphonic music ranges from soulful healing songs to spirited table songs and reverent chants that reach deep into history and collective memory. Holly, a voice leader, song collector and multi-disciplinary artist who has spent years studying Georgian song traditions, brings warmth, insight, and embodied practice to this workshop.

This workshop is open to anyone who can hold a tune in a group — no previous experience of Georgian music or ability to read notation is required. Tickets are offered on a sliding scale, covering all teaching time, materials, tea, coffee and biscuits (lunch not included).
